Mane Event!
Maintaining healthy hair can be challenging. I know for me, it’s something that I’ve had to work at accomplishing. And although I regularly visit the salon, I know how to take care of my own hair, and you should too.
But since I’m not a stylist, I’ve asked my two long-time stylists, Tracci Johnson and Pennae Lewis to give you expert advice on how to help you have healthy, beautiful, manageable hair.
Because of this past winter’s weather, your hair might have become dry and brittle. And no matter how you’ve tried to volumize it with a curling iron, you’re bound to get the same results.
But in fact, it’s the overuse of your curling iron and blow-drying that’s the root of the problem. Excessive use of curling irons and blow dryers rob the hair of much needed lipids and moisture. And when that happens, the result is dry, brittle, dull hair.
When I’m on the west coast, Tracci uses Optimum Care Stay Strong Conditioner. On the east coast, Pennae uses Optimum Oil Therapy® Ultimate Recovery Conditioner on my hair. Together, these products nourish, strengthen and protect hair. They help prevent breakage and split ends, and give my hair strength and body so that my fuller, healthier looking hair is more than an illusion—it’s the real thing!
Once you’ve found your favorite conditioner, give the curling iron and the blow dryer a rest. Try roller setting your hair or using the cool air option just before your hair is dry.
Finally, to moisturize between salon visits, I use Tracci’s Signature Style oil. It keeps my hair silky and soft without making it feel heavy and greasy.–Tracci Johnson
